About Becky Butler

Since retiring in 2022, I’ve been immersed in exploring color, emotion, and intuition through pastel, acrylic and mixed media. What began as a shift away from realism has become a deeper journey into abstraction—one that continues to surprise and inspire me.

I’m especially drawn to pastels for their immediacy and expressive range of color. My pastel work is representational.

Initially trained in realistic technique, I’ve since embraced a freer, more experimental approach. Working with color and mark-making intuitively allows me to respond directly to emotion, memory, and the present moment. Discovering oil and cold wax has added another dimension to my work, inviting even more spontaneity and layering.

Letting go of fixed expectations has opened the door to true creative freedom. My art is rooted in play, curiosity, and emotional honesty. I hope each piece offers a quiet reflection on the world we live in—and reveals some of the beauty that remains.
